I started taking photos even before I set off. This is the rather lovely view
from the Pukenui Lodge, in National Park. Mount Ngaurahoe, and what
looks like a white Toyota Corona in the foreground.

Here's a view of most of the Tongariro crossing from the summit of Ngaurahoe.
The path crosses the crater in the foreground and then climbs the pointy Red
Crater on the right, then heads off toward the Blue lake in the background.

Mount Ngaurahoe (2291m) Big, pointy and lovely.

A fellow rambler descending Ngauarhoe's steep scree
slopes at speed. Looks slightly scary, but i can assure
you it was a whole lotta fun. (Just be careful of sending
huge boulders speeding down at innocent Hungarians
below, OK?)

Another view from the top of Ngaurahoe, looking over the days route.

The White Stripes down the side of Ngaurahoe are the trails left by dozens
of ramblers sliding down the rough, volcanic scree (My lovely Scarpas were
scarred up a treat by the descent)

These people may look like two off duty Toploader impersonators,
but they are in fact two very amiable Israelis i met on the walk. The one
on the right was a fellow Photography bore, and we had a very interesting
chat about the relative merits of using 200 and 400 ISO film in the
prevailing conditions. (We decided on 400)
